Top 5 Reasons to hire a pet sitter

:1.   Most pets don't enjoy living in a kennel while you are away on vacation or out of town on business. In fact, some pets become depressed as a result of the trauma. Dodi's Animal House allows your pet to stay at home where they feel safe and comfortable.

2.  Your stress is reduced by eliminating the need to pack up and transport your pet to and from the kennel as you prepare and pack for your own trip.

3.   Your house appears to be occupied, giving you peace of mind that your home is less a target for thieves.

4.   Your pet's temperament and disposition remain positive when his or her daily routine of playing, walking, and being fed is not disrupted.

5.   You have an added security measure by having activity in and around your house as mail and newspapers are brought in, plants watered, litterbox cleaned, pets played with and walked.

We hope that Animal House can become a new friend for your pet and someone you can depend upon for your sitting needs. In order to use this service most efficiently, please read the important guidelines below, and print out and complete a Pet History Form for each pet.

pet information

  • On the Pet History form, let us know what the important routines are in your pet's day.
  • Include information regarding any health problems, issues, or medications that we should be aware of.
  • Let us know if your pet bites, nips, plays, chews, and most importantly -- where all the snacks and toys are located.
  • Pets sometimes hide if their owners go away, so please let us know where your pet may be hiding so we don't panic if he or she is not around when we arrive.
  • Consider leaving a credit card number with your vet in case of a pet emergency.
  • Be sure to have identification tags for each pet. Free tags are available at FAIRE, Friends of Animals in the Redwood Empire, at (707) 526-FAIR.

planning information

  • Reserve your sitting service as far in advance as possible, especially for holidays.
  • Have a spare key made for your sitter ( and makes sure it works! )
  • Have extra supplies of food and litter in case you are away longer than anticipated.
  • Be sure collars fit properly, and make note of where the leash is kept.

home information

  • Dispose of food that may spoil while you are gone, and clean dishes before you leave to avoid inviting pests into your house.
  • Be sure to leave information regarding your home security system for the sitter.
  • Leave an article of your clothing near where your pet sleeps.
  • Leave your veterinarian's phone number and emergency contact numbers near the phone.
  • Move any valuable items away from windows.
  • Leave pet feeding and water bowls out.
  • Inform sitter where your cleaning supplies (brooms, dustpans, vacuums) are kept.
  • Store outdoor toys, furniture and bicycles inside so they are not a target for thieves.
  • Leave all items for your pet ( food cans or bags, bowls, snacks, leashes ) in one area so the sitter can easily find them.
  • For evening visits, please try to have a timer for your lights so the sitter doesn't have to enter a dark house, or startle your pets.
